- When is a good time to buy my breastfeeding bra?
The Mammae Soft can be purchased during your pregnancy. It is better to buy the Mammae Classic , Mystery and Plus during the first week after delivery.
Already from the start of your pregnancy your breasts change in shape. Because of the expansion of the mammary gland tissue they become heavier and fuller. How much your breasts will expand is hard to predict.
Your breasts expand during pregnancy but can increase as well during breastfeeding. On average this is one cup-size, but every woman is different. Your girth can change as well.
An underwire bra must really rest on your ribs and not on the breast tissue. Therefore, if you want the correct size, you had better wait until the first week after delivery to purchase the Mammae Classic, Mystery or Plus.
- My midwife tells me not to buy an underwire breastfeeding bra. Is this true?
The underwire in the Mammae is specially designed for the feeding breast. We designed this underwire in collaboration with lactation specialists/midwifes. Thanks to its sloped shape the underwire does not impact the milk channels and there is always sufficient space available for the breast to fill with milk. If wearing the correct size, the underwire rests on the ribs and not on the breast tissue. This means that an underwire bra is perfect.
During the first maternity week, it is better to wear a breastfeeding bra without underwire.
Between the third and the fifth day after the delivery, you will get engorgement. Your breasts are very swollen and feel painful. This can make you breasts increase by another cup size. The typical engorgement after the delivery disappears after approximately 48 hours. During these days you should never wear a pinching bra. The Mammae Soft is ideal during the first maternity week. If you are breastfeeding for the first time, then you can uncover the breast fully wearing Mammae Soft, meaning that you can easily ‘learn’ how to breastfeed.
At night it is best to wear breastfeeding bra without underwire.
Because you lose milk during the night as well, it is a good idea to wear breast pads. To keep these in place, you need a bra. An underwire bra during the night is a bad idea because (when you lay at your side) the underwire presses on the breast tissue. This can squeeze the mammary channels.
Therefore, the better choice at night is wearing the Mammae Soft.
- I cannot open the eye; it is too tight around my nipple.
This means that alas you bought the bra too small (see correct size). You must be able to pull open the eye while the tissue remains in place. If this proves impossible, then the bra is too small. You can try choosing one cup larger. Is the cup too large, keep the cup size while going for a smaller girth.
Example: D80 is too small – E80 is too large – in this case, keep the E-cup but choose one girth size smaller = E75
- I have the Red Romance (80F) and I am very satisfied with it. I also want to purchase the Crème Crush. Is my size identical?
De Crème Crush (Mammae Mystery) is another model. The Red Romance is a balconnet model. The Crème Crush covers the entire breast because of its higher cups and underwire. It is a therefore a good idea to try on the other model to feel whether it fits you comfortably.
- The cups of my Purple Promise are not filled at the side.
It could be that you have two different breasts. In most cases the left hand side breast is larger; it is therefore possible that the bra fits perfect at the left hand side, but is too large at the right hand side.
It is possible that you wear a too large size. First try one size smaller, If this is too small, keep the smaller cup and go for a larger girth.
Example: D80 is too large; you go for a smaller cup C80; this is too small (you cannot pull open the eye easily); in that case keep the C-cup but choose a larger girth = C85
Bras are in this respect similar to jeans/denim. Not every jeans/denim fits all women. It could therefore be that this model does not suit you.
- Can I buy my bra second hand?
We really advise against this. Because of the pregnancy and breastfeeding, many women do not know what their size is anymore. The chances are high that you will be wearing the wrong size. Our points of sale will measure you and can give good advice.
An F-cup is totally different with a 75 F than with an 85 F. Women often think that only the cup is of importance. This is not true! Girth and cup size together determine the bra size!
- I have heavy breasts. Which model do you recommend for me?
The Mammae Plus and Mammae Mystery were especially developed for larger cups. Thanks to their extra support, there is less risk for cracked nipples and stripes, and they have a slimming effect!
- I read that when wearing your bra one has less risk for cracked nipples. What is the reason for this?
Because of the support by the underwire and powernet, your breast and your nipple are lifted. This brings the nipple in the correct position making it easier for your baby to latch on. Because your baby does not have to pull the nipple ‘horizontal’, the nipple is better protected. Therefore: no need for support by hand or tissue …

Mammae Soft vanaf €39,95.
Borstkompressen vanaf €15 euro (voor 4)

No, we do not have an online shop. Many points of sale have an online shop as well where you can order the Mammae. You will find them below. Please read the section on ‘the correct size’ first.
- Discreet breastfeeding? How is this done?
Mammae helps to breastfeed comfortably around other people and in ‘public’ places. Thanks to the special opening you can breastfeed without showing your breasts. This will make you feel more comfortably and makes it easier to breastfeed.
- How should I use the Mammae bra?
When it is worn, the pad fits in-between your nipple and the inner bra. When you start breastfeeding, you pull the pad away and you can conveniently store it is the storage compartment.
- I have a small cup; which model do you recommend?
The Mammae Classic is perfect for smaller cups! It is a balconnet model . Thanks to its preformed and low cut cup it is perfect for wearing under any garment. Ensures a nice décolleté. Starts at B-F 70-95.
- The bra opens at the cups
It could be that you wear a bra that is too small; this gives tension on the cups and the clasp opens. You can compare this to the buttons on a shirt or on trousers that are worn too small.
If this is not the case, then it could be that the tissue around the half-moons is overstretched (the half-moons are attached to the cup). You can easily remedy this by sewing the half-moons behind the vertical part.
- Do all your bras have underwire?
No, the Mammae Soft has no underwire. This means that you can wear it perfectly during the pregnancy, the first maternity week or at night.
- There is a very good lingerie shop where I live. Your brand is unfortunately not sold there. A real pity.
We are always on the lookout for good points of sale. If you pass on the name and address, we will contact the shop.
- How do I avoid stripes on my breasts?
You can try to prevent stripes by wearing a good bra that permanently supports your breasts. Common breastfeeding bras often offer support during wearing, but no during breastfeeding. And especially during breastfeeding, your breasts are at their ‘heaviest’. Mammae offer support during breastfeeding, which means that the skin does not have to carry the weight of the breast.
- Hands free expressing milk is an advantage!
Indeed, the express fits in-between the flaps of the inner cup and remains in place. This means that you do not need extra accessories, and that you can express milk hands free.

- Can I wear the blouse (top) in combination with a ‘normal’ breastfeeding bra?
Of course, the blouse has a special opening allowing discreet feeding using this blouse.
- How does the system work that indicates with which breast to start feeding?
You can chose which flap is closed as the latest. This flap must be opened first. This shows you which breast to use first for feeding.
- Is your belly visible during feeding?
Never! We gave this due consideration. You belly remains covered and is camouflaged by the ‘pleads’!
- What are the washing instructions for your clothing?
You can was everything at 30 °C. It is good advice not to use the tumble dryer/dryer. The material is viscose. It feels heavenly soft but it is also vulnerable.
- How can I wash my bra?
Mammae Classic and Mammae Plus are underwire bras. It is the best idea not to machine wash your bra. The reason is not that the tissue could not stand it (it is washable up to 30 °C) but the underwire could loosen. This could damage the washing machine. We therefore advise you to hand-wash your bra.
Thoroughly rinse your bra afterwards, and smooth out the cups. Do not let allow the bra to dry directly close to a heath source.
Dou you wish to machine wash your bra? Put your bra in a washing bag, choose hand-wash or wool-program and do not overload your machine. It goes without saying that you wash similar colours together.
Never put items with Velcro together with the bra, this could damage the cups.
Never put the bras in a tumble dryer. The tissue could shrink, meaning that the underwire no longer fits and could tear through the tissue!
The Mammae Soft however can be machine washed at 30°C.
- How can I wash the breast compresses?
You can wash the breast compresses at 30 °C. If you notice mouth thrush, it is better to wash them at 60 °C to kill the bacteria. Attention: if you do this frequently, the colours might fade.
